Homeward Bound Our group toured to Ubud, a popular tourist destination touted to be a bit more artistic than the local beach scene. I don't know...at first glance I thought Park City, Utah or Lahaina, Hawaii - but, it really was just another mass of tourists fighting broken narrow sidewalks risking their lives to get to the other side of the street. I should be more positive but how much shopping can people do? There was one incredible experience to be had: a massage in the most fabulous setting. Our expressions say it all...excellent massage, scrubs and a soak in a stone tub filled with hot water and rose petals. All for $20.00. I'm headed home in a couple of hours; 30+ hours in transit with a full week ahead. What do I savor the most from the trip? The incredible awe of the terraced rice paddies. No single frame of a snapshot can capture the immense territory these fields cover. Forget the beach (which I didn't go to!), forget the bargaining at the markets and if you ever come to Bali, head for the hills. ![]()
